THE SCHOOL’S INVOLVEMENT IN THE COMMUNITY:
MISSION AND VISION

The mission and vision of Mbilwi Senior Secondary School is to provide quality education in the Science field and to promote the interest in Science subjects in learners and the teaching of Science by educators in an environment conducive to teaching and learning.

Because of the brief mission and vision of this school, Mbilwi Secondary is involved in a number of projects, which are intended to fulfill its mission to the community.

MBILWI SATURDAY SCHOOL

Mbilwi staff members recruited other top teachers form the neighboring schools and together they teach Saturday classes from Grade 8 (STD 6) TO Grade 12 (STD 10) in all subjects done in most schools.

The emphasis in these Saturday classes is on Science subjects although all other subjects are catered for. The Saturday classes start in February and end in June when the winter schools start.

These Saturday classes which have been going on now for the past seven years have helped many learners from other school to improve their work and to have interest in the Science subjects. Many learners came to realize that their problems, when it comes to Mathematics and Science, is the because of lack of background.

Learners are charged a minimal fee to run these Saturday classes and Mbilwi Secondary School is proud to host these classes and is willing to provide its limited facilities for the smooth running of these classes.

MBILWI WINTER SCHOOL

Just like Saturday classes Mbilwi Secondary also host Winter school for learners from our school and surrounding schools for the winter holidays. These classes are helping learners, especially Grade 12 learners to prepare for their final examinations and they also help to keep learners busy during the holidays. Learners from various school across the Limpopo province and the neighbouring provinces attend this winter school.

LEARNER EXCHANGE PROGRAMMES

Mbilwi also promote an exchange programme with other willing schools, they send their learners (5-10) to observe by attending our school for a week and during that week they are treated just like our own learners and they are expected to take part in all activities which are going on at our school. This exchange programme has a way of encouraging/ motivating these learners so that they could see that Mbilwi learners and teachers are just ordinary people like themselves and as such when they go back to their respective school they could report back to other learners what they have seen.

HELP TO OTHER EDUCATORS / TEACHERS

Throughout the past years we have had several visits by teachers and Principals from other schools that wanted to copy what we were doing. The idea is for the teachers to come and spend the whole day observing and exchanging their ideas with their counterparts. They are allowed to visit any class and observe any teacher in action and they are also allowed to talk to any learner and see their books. The management do not tell the educators and learners that we will have visitors. This is to make sure that visitors come and find us going about our everyday activities (no stage performance). On the average we host 15 schools per year.

We hope this helps them to see that Mbilwi staff members and learners are just ordinary people like themselves.
