DEBATES The school always participate in various competitions that are organised locally, nationally and internationally. Some of the competitions that the school entered for and fared well are as follows: SAKKIES ANTI-CRIME AND DEBATE COMPETITION This competition is organized by the Thohoyandou branch of the South African Police Services and Sakkies Panelbeaters (the sponsors), and teaches students to stay away from crime criminal activities. During this competition student’s debate on themes related to crime prevention strategies. Since its inception in 1996, Mbilwi students have already won many prizes in the competitions. A. NOTELTA SPEECH, DRAMA AND DEBATE COMPETITION. This is a competition that is run by an organization called Northern Transvaal English Language Teachers Association ( Notelta ) . Mbilwi students always obtain trophies and awards for the First, Second and Third position annually during the competition. B. THE UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY MOCK DEBATE This competition started in 1995 here in South Africa. It always culminates with an international competition that is held in Austria, Vienna. Since its inception, the SAB and Education Africa are the core-runners. The two main patrons are the minister of education of the day and the president of the country. Our record in the competition stands as follows: 1994 : Mbilwi got the first place in Northern Region. One of the participating students by the name SANKARAN VIGNESH was chosen to represent the Province in National Competition. C. 10 MARCH 2003 – COMMON WEALTH DAY CELEBRATION Mbilwi Secondary School represented by five (5) learners took part in the Common Wealth Day Celebration in the Limpopo Legislature. The theme of Commonwealth Mock Parliament debate was “Partners in Development.” Mbilwi learners did very well in the debate and won a trophy, t-shirts and certificate when they took position three (3). D. SABC 1 AND MOTIME INTERNATIONAL PRODUCTION EDUCATIONAL QUIZ ( EQ 99) In 1999 SABC TV 1 and the MOTIME INTERNATIONAL PRODUCTION hosted a National Educational Quiz that involved all nine provinces in SOUTH AFRICA. Each competition slot was broadcasted during the TAKE 5 TV 1 Programme. At the end of the 13 weeks of tough knock-out competitions amongst all nine provinces, Mbilwi emerged the first national champion of this educational quiz. Our learners obtained the following prizes: A holiday trip at Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe by plane; R30 000 in form of bursaries; medals and beautiful trophies. The students were: TSHIOLOLI KHUMBELO, GUNPATH ROSHAN AND MAVHUSHA DENGA.
1995 : Mbilwi got the 2nd place position in the provincial competition.
1996 : Mbilwi got the 2nd place position in the provincial competition.
1997 : Mbilwi got the 2nd place position in the provincial competition.
1998 : Mbilwi got the 1st place position in the provincial competition and proceeded to the national
1999 : MACHEBE SINNIE has been selected to be the only learners from the Northern Province to join other learners from other provinces in a team to represent South Africa in USA. The trip is to be undertaken from 16 March 2001 – 28 March 2001.
