Mathematics Olympiads
Learners participate in many types of Mathematics Olympiad Competitions which include: OLD MUTUAL MATHEMATICS OLYMPIAD 9(nine) learners from Grades 8 and 9 and 47 learners from Grades 10,11 and 12 entered this competitions. The entry fee was R10,00 pr learner. The first round was held at the school on the 12th of April 2000. Only 6 learners qualified to write the Second Round, which was also held at the school on the 6th of July 2000. None of these 6 learners qualified to go to the third round which was held on the 6th September 2000. THE HARMONY GOLD Mbilwi learners participate in the above mentioned competition every year. Because of their performance MAUDA RENDANI and KHOHOMELA KONANANI were selected to participate in Interprovincial Competitions. MAUDA RENDANI also attended a Maths Camp at Stellenbosch during Christmas holiday in 2002. In 2005, one hundred and nineteen (119) learners participated in the first round competition which was held on 15/03/2005. Two (2) from junior level and sixteen (16 ) learners from senior level participated in the second round competition which was held on 10/05/2005. AMESA (ASSOCIATION FOR MATHEMATICS EDUCATORS OF 70 junior learners (Grade8 and 9) and 120senior learners (Grade10, 11 and12) paid R2, 00 each to enter for this year’s AMESA Maths Olympiad. Of these, 9 of them (5 senior and 4 juniors) qualified to compete in the second round, held at this school on to the third round. The third round was held at Mokopane College of Education. The final results were as follows: 4 of the five junior learners, namely Ndangano Nevhulaudzi, Kabanda Nwaadham, Mathavha Thingahangwi and Patel Imtiaz took positions 5,6, 7 and 8 respectively for the whole Northern Province. In 2006, four learners from our school received medals at the final level competition (two Gold and two silver). In 2007, three of our learners qualified to be one of the top ten in the province. In 2009, Three of our learners qualified to be one of the top 10 learners in the province. MATHS CAMP In December 2004, Mauda Rendani attended the Maths Camp organized by the University of Cape Town. A Grade 10 learner, Tshikhovhokhovho Ishmael attended the Maths Camp in February 2005 at Polokwane organized by the Limpopo Province. In 2007, A Grade 10 learner named “Mauda Rofhiwa” will attend the Maths Camp organized by the University of Cape Town. UNIVERSITY OF PRETORIA MATHS COMPETITON Every year learners from junior and senior level participate in the above mentioned competition. MASTER MATHS
SOUTHERN AFRICA) MATHS OLYMPIAD
In 2005, Sixty (60) learners from the junior level and one hundred and twenty nine (129) learners form the senior level participated in the first round competition. Five (5) learners from each level were selected to participate in the second round competition. Three (3) learners form junior level and four (4) from senior level will be participating in the third round competition which will be held in September.
In 2003, MAUDA RENDANI, our Grade 10 learner was one of the presenters in the Mathematics Camp organized by the Limpopo Province in preparation of AMESA Competition later this year
Thuthukha Mpho received a laptop as a prize for participation in Master Maths Programme.
